While I certainly agree with the second part of the Einstein quote, I have my doubts about the first part. I *used* to agree with it, but now, I don't think that there is anything wrong with possessions, luxury, etc. Not to have them to show off or to feed ego, but to have them for life's enjoyment. Can the two parts (possessions and a simple & unassuming manner) live together in the same person? I bet they can. I live in a modest house, but maybe to those who live in apartments by necessity, I have "outward success". Do I have "outward success" because I have a car and lots of people don't and must rely on the bus? I consider myself unassuming, but I guess it is all a matter of perception.
What say you?

Hi David,
It's nice to hear from you again. I must stop in for more wine. Of course. I agree there's nothing wrong with luxury, and I've been known to enjoy a fine hotel, meal, and dress. But I never go overboard, even when I could. Rather I think of sharing with others, and it's just not my thing to be extravagant. I like idea of simple living. I also don't over-decorate. I respond well to simplicity, which is one reason I liked Einstein's quote.
